Hey, fellow! Finally you know the exact day of your thesis defense and now you are ready to impress everyone with your speaking skills and the deep knowledge of the problem you have investigated. It is not that easy to shake your nerves by such trifles as thesis defense and this time you will prove everyone your self-management abilities and skills to gather all your will power to get the top results.
 
Before amazing everyone during your theses defense read some hints suggested below:

• Your defense should summarize your thesis;
• Not all the committee is familiar with your thesis;
• Inform the committee clearly about the purposes of your research, its stages and its results. Suggest some aspects of the future research;
• Get ready to answer the questions during the thesis defense, they may be of three types: inquisitive (they concern some problems that, from the committee’s point of view were not sufficiently covered by you), curious (those that help the members of the committee to know more about your research) and hostile (an area of inadequacy is being exposed on you by the committee);
• Consider the role of your advisor at your thesis defense: only your advisor decides whether you are ready or not to defend your thesis, keep him/her informed about your thesis defense preparation. Your advisor should not be surprised by the report you present during the thesis defense, you should satisfy your advisor;
• Try to visit at least one thesis defense on your discipline to know the way the process is arranged.

Note that even attire is important at your thesis defense. It contributes to the committee’s general assumption of you as a person and as a researcher. The most acceptable clothes for male students are: standard formal attire, for females– some conservative attire. Let even this small detail contribute to your general success during the theses defense.
